SWANSEA – Swansea’s Free Public Library has an assortment of events and features planned for the coming weeks.
Booker packs are available for kids of all ages, chosen by Booker, our mascot, and come with coloring pages and puzzles. Request one of our packages online and try new books. We have board books, picture books, easy readers, chapter books, mysteries, fiction, sci-fi / fantasy, sports and more for all ages. Order a bundle of books today with our online form and Booker will prepare a package for you.
Take and make crafts
Take and Make fall crafts are available for curbside pickup and inside the library. Stop and grab a bag with a special seasonal craft inside. Available during regular library hours.
Are you looking for good movies? Bundles of films are available for our customers. Choose a theme on our Bundle form located on Swansea Free Public Library website and our staff will choose movies for you. Packs include four to five DVDs plus microwave popcorn. Bundles are for curbside pickup only.
As the weather changes, why not take a walk in the woods? At the end of the walk is the Story Walk at the Lt. Robert Cabral Memorial Soccer Field. It’s a great way to spend time outdoors and read. While you’re at it, grab a nature scavenger
Hunt the form in the library and see how many things you can spot in the woods. This week’s history walk is “Curious George Goes Camping”.
The Pokémon Club meets on the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon. Join Pokémon fans for a fun hour of card trading and Pokémon Bingo. Earn Pokémon Cards and Treats. It’s fun for fans of all ages. The next meeting will be on Saturday September 11, outside at the picnic tables on the front lawn. Space is limited, so register online for your bingo card.
Squad of monsters
Calling all monster fans: it’s the monthly Monster Squad Club! The next fan rally will be Saturday, September 11 at 1 p.m. ET. Monster Squad will meet outside while the weather is cooperative. Open to all monster fans aged 6 to 12. Monster Squad meets the second Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Check our website for more information on monsters.
Make it Snappy Photo Contest
September is Library Card registration month, and once again the library will be hosting the 11th annual “Make it Snappy” Photo Contest. Library card holders can submit a photo of themselves with their library card anywhere, anywhere and using any type of software and enter it. The deadline is Friday October 15th. Adult coloring club
The coloring club is back at the library. Join us every Monday from noon to 2 p.m. to start the week with stress-free coloring. Pens, crayons and markers are available with a wide variety of coloring pages, or bring your own.
Swansea family historians meet again Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. Join this informal group as we work on various projects, personal family stories and help others with their brick walls. The library has computer access, Wi-Fi for laptops and Ancestry.com among the website options. Come and start working on your family tree.
The Swansea Knitters, with Sue Carpenter at the helm, are back and working on various projects. New to knitting? We can help. Working on a difficult model? We can help. Knitters of all skill levels are invited to join this group of friendly, fun and furious knitting enthusiasts. The knitters meet every Thursday at noon in the reference room.
The monthly quilt club will begin meeting on the first Friday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. As summer begins to fade and the days grow longer, now is a great time to start working on a warm quilt. New and experienced quilters are welcome. Under the direction of quilter Diane Preble, create a cute wall hanging, lap quilt, gift for a friend, or work on a quilt for the cold winter months. Diane will help you get started and answer questions as you create a fabric masterpiece. In this group, you’ll learn all about the tools and supplies needed for quilting, the basics of using a sewing machine, all about patterns and kits, and the love of fabric. Bring your kits and plans. You don’t have to be a great seamstress to make a great quilt. Have fun learning to quilt! This month’s meeting will take place on Friday, September 3.
YA Book Club for adults
The YA for Grown-Ups Book Club will meet on Friday, September 17 at 6 p.m. This month’s reading is “Aurora Rising” by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. YA for Grown-Ups is a book club for readers aged 16 and over. Join this fun group and discover the world of YA literature. Refreshments provided. New members welcome.
Graphic Novel Book Club for Adults
New to graphic novels? Welcome to graphic novels for adults. The next meeting will be on Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m. This club is for readers 16 and over who appreciate great writing with sequential art for a unique reading experience. The Agathe company
Is Cozy your choice for fun and light reading? It’s mystery. We love the cozy mysteries at the Swansea Free Public Library. Every month we read different warm authors. Bring your tea and cookies, sit in a comfortable chair and spend an hour relaxing with the Agatha Company. The Agatha Society meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 4 p.m. This reading group is virtual, so register online at www.swansealibrary.org.
The Cooking Book Club
On the fourth Tuesday of each month, the Virtual Cookbook Club meets. All members are invited to choose a recipe from the chosen book; prepare the recipe at home and share the results with the members. We will discuss the author’s choices, if the recipe is worth remaking, and we will also discuss new cookbooks, fun
