Manhattan Beach elementary music teacher arrested for possession of child pornography – Daily Breeze

A man who works as a part-time elementary school music teacher for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District was arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography on Wednesday, Jan. 26, officials said.

Kevin Bandel, 30, of Manhattan Beach, was arrested after detectives were tipped off that he may be in possession of child sexual exploitation material online, Redondo Beach police said in a communicated. A search warrant was executed at his home in the 1300 block of Curtis Avenue, where multiple pieces of evidence were found, police said.

Bandel was sentenced to Redondo Beach City Jail and held on $20,000 bond.

Bandel has been placed on administrative leave, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District said in a statement. He was hired in August 2018 as a teaching assistant for the district’s elementary ropes program, according to the district.

“We are working with the Redondo Beach Police Department and providing any information they need to support their investigation,” the district said.

The district said counseling services are available.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Detective Ryan Harrison at 310-379-2477 ext. 2480.
