Knit a color block sweater to brighten up your spring wardrobe

To fit bust 81-86(92-97:102-107)cm;
Finished measurements Bust 93(105:117)cm; Length up to the neck 53(55:57)cm; Sleeve seam 45(46:47)cm.

MATERIALS

  • 2(3:3) 100g skeins of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in Cloud 1575 (A) and 3 skeins in Saxony 718 (B)
  • Match each size of 3.25mm and 3.75mm knitting needles

    TENSION

    22.5 m and 29 rows at 10 cm square stitch with 3.75 mm needles.

    ABBREVIATIONS

    beg start; cm centimeters; after Carry on; dec decrease; to follow Following; inc. increase; k knit; m1 make a st by picking up and working in the back of the loop between the st just worked and the next st; p pure; Rem remaining; representing repeat;RS right side; m(s) stitches);st-st Jersey; tog whole; WS bad side.

    BACK

    Cast on 106 (120:134) sts on 3.75 mm and B needles. 1st row (RS) [K1, p1] to finish. 2nd row P to finish. These 2 rows form the pattern of broken ribs and are repeated until the back measures 6 cm from the cast-on row, ending in a bow. Start with row ak, knit in sts until back piece measures 23(24:25)cm from cast-on row, ending with row 1. Change to A and continue in st until that the back measures 34(35:36)cm from the cast-on row, ending with a row.

    Armhole shape

    Cast off 14 (16:18) sts at the beg of the next 2 rows. 78 (88:98) m**. Continue straight until the back measures 53(55:57)cm, ending with a row.

    Shape of the shoulders

    Next row (from RS) Cast off 12(15:18) sts, K until there are 54(58:62) sts on right needle, cast off remaining sts. Slip the middle 54 (58:62) sts on a neck bartack.

    FRONT

    Work exactly as shown for Return to **. Continue straight until 16 rows less have been knitted than in the back to the beginning of the shoulder shaping, ending with one row.

    Form in front of the neck

    Next line (RS) 25 (29:33) K sts, turn and continue on these sts only, leaving remaining sts on a spare needle. Cast off 4 sts at beg (neckline) of next row, 3 sts at beg of next row from WS, 2 sts at beg of next 1st row (2:3) from WS, then 1 st at beg of next row 4(3:2) WS lines. Knit 2 rows.

    Shoulder shape

    Cast off the remaining 12 (15:18) sts. From the RS, slip 28(30:32) sts from the middle front on a bar, join the yarn to the remaining 25(29:33) sts, cast off 4, knit to K. P 1 row. Cast off 3 sts at beg (neckline) of next row, 2 sts at beg of next 1 row (2:3) from RS, then 1 st at beg of next 4 rows (3:2) from RS. Knit 3 rows.

    Shoulder shape

    Cast off the remaining 12 (15:18) sts.

    SLEEVES

    Cast on 43 (47:49) sts on 3.75 mm and B needles. 1st row (RS)K1, [p1, k1] to finish. 2nd row P to finish. These 2 rows form broken rib and repeat until sleeve measures 5 cm from cast-on row, ending with one row. Start with row ak, knit 4 rows in st-st. Inc line K2, m1, k until the last 2 stitches, m1, k2. Knit 5 rows.

    Increase row K2, m1, k until the last 2 stitches, m1, k2. Knit 3 rows. Rep the last 10 rows until there are 81(85:89) sts, the same time, when sleeve height measures 32(33:34)cm, continue in A and continue in mm keeping the correct increases. Knit straight until sleeve measures 45(46:47)cm from cast-on row, ending with one row. Insert a marker at each end of the last row, then work another 18 (20:22) rows. Release.

    COLLAR BORDER

    Join the right shoulder seam. From RS, needle size 3.25 mm and A, pick up and knit 20 sts along the left front neckline, knit 28 (30:32) sts mid front, pick up and knit 20 sts the along the right front neckline, then knit 54(58:62) sts mid back. 122(128:134) m. 1st row (WS) [P1,k1] to finish. 2nd row K to end. Rep these 2 rows one more time. Cast off in patt on the wrong side.

    TO COMPENSATE

    Join the left shoulder and the edge of the neck. With the middle of the cast off stitches from the sleeve to the shoulder seam, sew the sleeves into the armholes, adjusting slightly and with the row ends above the markers sewn to the cast off stitches under the arms. Join the side and sleeve seams.
