Knit a chic children’s sweater for spring

Spring is right around the corner, and that means we’ll soon be swapping sweaters for sweatshirts as the temperatures (hopefully!) warm up a bit. So why not get ingenious and make this children’s sweatshirt for that important little person in your life?

Our exclusive kids’ sweatshirt pattern uses super soft wool and features a timeless design they’ll want to wear everywhere. We could definitely see Prince George and Princess Charlotte wearing one of these sweatshirts on walks with their grandmother Carole!

Finished measurements: Chest 70(74.5:79)cm; Shoulder length 36(39:43)cm; Sleeve length 22(25:28)cm.

  • 4(5:6) 50g scoops of Debbie Bliss Eco Baby in Petal 053 or Willow 54
  • Match each of the 3mm and 3.25mm knitting needles
  • two buttons

    25m and 34 rows at 10cm square on st-st using 3.25mm needles

    Cast on 89 (95:101) sts on 3 mm needles. K 1 row. Switch to 3.25mm needles. K 1 row. P 1 row.

    Next line (RS) P1(0:0), k3(1:2), [p1, k3] to last 1(2:3) stitches, p1, k0(1:2). P 1 row. K 1 row. Switch to 3mm needles. K 1 row. P 1 row. Switch to 3.25mm needles. Start with a row on one, knit in sts until the back measures 23(25:27)cm from the cast-on row, ending with a row from the RS (k).

    Yoke Switch to 3mm needles. K 1 row. P 1 row. Switch to 3.25mm needles. P 1 row.

    Next line (RS) P1(0:0), k3(1:2), [p1, k3] to last 1(2:3) stitches, p1, k0(1:2). Start with a row, knit 3 rows in st-st.

    Next line (RS)K2(3:0), [p1, k3] to last 3 (0:1) m, p1 (0:1), k2 (0:0). Start with a row, knit 3 rows in st-st **. Rep the last 8 rows until back measures 35(38:42) cm, ending with a row from RS ***. Switch to 3mm needles. K 1 row. P 1 row.

    Shape of the shoulders

    Next line Cast off 14(16:18), p until there are 12 sts on right needle, turn and continue on these sts only. Knit 3 rows in st-st. Cast off with the right side out.     COLLAR

    Join the right shoulder seam. Pick up and knit 21 sts along the left front neck on 3 mm needles, knit 15(17:19) sts mid front, pick up and knit 21 sts on the right front of the neckline, knit 37(39) :41) sts from center back, then pick up and knit 4 sts towards the edge of the extension of the left shoulder. 98 (102:106) m.     TO COMPENSATE

    Join the left shoulder until the start of shoulder extension. With the center of the folded edge of the sleeve over the shoulder, sew the sleeves. Join the side and sleeve seams. Sew the buttons.
