WEINHEIM, Germany – August 11, 2022 – Freudenberg Performance Materials presents Freudenberg friction inserts to trade visitors at WindEnergy, the leading trade fair for the international wind energy industry. Freudenberg Friction Inserts are a unique technology aimed at increasing the power density of wind turbines. Freudenberg Performance Materials will welcome WindEnergy visitors at Stand 531 in Hall B6.
Freudenberg Friction Inserts (FFI) technology is based on a special, very thin non-woven backing material coated on one side with hard particles. FFIs are customized to suit each application, in terms of geometry and connection construction parameters. Since they do not create gaps, they can be applied exactly where they are needed.
When placed in the joint, these hard particles penetrate the surfaces of the two joining parts creating a micro lock, thus reliably increasing the coefficient of friction and achieving higher torque transmission in the connections. This results in higher performance and a significant improvement in the efficiency of wind turbines. In addition, it allows components to be reduced in size without compromising performance, by reducing weight and materials.
Increased safety and efficiency
Thanks to innovative technology, FFI contributes to improving the reliability of the connections and therefore of the entire wind turbine. In addition, they eliminate slippage and prevent chafing of connections.
Wide range of applications for Freudenberg friction inserts
Other examples of applications for FFI are heavily loaded flanged connections between rotor shaft and gearbox, connections between main bearing and machine support housing, gearbox to generator, or at the step gear or crown gear. Precision engineered for their intended use, they increase the coefficient of friction between two components.
