Abstract patterns and cropped crochet tops from the Fall/Winter 2022 collection mark a new, younger direction for Italian fashion brand Etro.
Braided belts, fringe and crochet met fashion week at The Etro Fall/Winter 2022 Ready-to-Wear show. JArtistic director Veronia Etro’s retro-inspired bohemian-chic collection came to life on the catwalk, where ’80s and ’90s hits erupted as models strutted around in vibrant looks at Milan’s Conservatorio di Musica.
Etro is known for bending fashion rules, with a Winter 2021 collection that’s literally been designed to stay at home (think quilted sweatshirts, leggings, bombers, etc.) This year, Etro has moved outside the living room, drawing inspiration from both the concrete jungle and the real jungle to create a unique and playful collection that pays homage to the founding of the brands in Italy during the hippie era of the 60s.
The ETRO REMIX collection still has some comfort elements that were seen last winter, mixed with bohemian details like crushed velvet and mesh, ensuring both maximum comfort and style. Much of the collection revolves around knit items, like crochet cutout dresses and bras, and patchwork stitched bomber jackets.
“Everything invites you to be caressed, to celebrate the hands that made it: weaving threads, hammering metals, knotting ropes; a fresh take on art and craftsmanship,” the brand said in a statement. The collection’s artful elements continue beyond the knits, with braided fringe and harlequin patch detailing.
The collection stuck to a classic, earthy color palette with khaki, tan and chocolate, but then picked up the pace with silver, burgundy, blue and retro designs. Accessories took up a lot of space on the catwalk, with chunky ’70s-inspired belts leading the way. The other major player on the runway were the knee-high suede boots, made bohemian with a slight sag and hammered silver detailing on the heel.
According to the name of the collection, the classic paisley pattern that made the brand so successful (at the beginning, Etro was only a textile company) has been reconstructed, enlarged into abstract sections, giving the pattern a new meaning and ushering in a new era. for Etro.
Other contemporary looks include jumpsuits and crop tops, perhaps a calling card for a younger, more free-spirited audience.
